I love everything about design. From the natural flow of color and pattern, to that unexpected pop of madness.

SkimStone decorative concrete veneer.

Two of my favorite mediums are concrete and metallics,  sometimes I use them together.  SkimStone is an integral colored concrete veneer, developed as an overlay for laminate, quartz, fiberglass, tile, toaster ovens, granite.  Ok, just kidding about the toaster ovens, but with the right primer, it can go anywhere

This kitchen tile backsplash is SkimStone, textured and embellished with patinated copper.  The wall behind the range is also SkimStone, and was finished with copper glaze.

This kitchen counter was dark green laminate.  It was not replaced, it was covered with SkimStone concrete veneer.  Smooth to the feel, but lots of visual texture.

More SkimStone,
concrete look for a contemporary home.

FAUX FINISH       FOCAL WALLS

Picture
This is ivory tinted lime plaster, multi layers using a damask allover stencil.
The results are stunning. There is a lightly raised texture, but the feeling is smooth and vibrant.

A similar look could be done with paint, but it wouldn't be as elegant

From white to black, a drop dead gorgeous tone on tone using two shades and sheens of black.  This is a small bedroom 12x10, would you consider using black?  Probably not, the accent color is turquoise, all trim, closet door, ceiling drapery, and linens are white.

Any design, simple, elegant, sophisticated can be added to a wall without applying wall paper.

CABINETS

Picture
Is your kitchen or bath full of ugly cabinets?
Has the oak yellowed, the walnut faded and lost its sheen?  Too expensive to replace? There are alternatives.

BEFORE  This laundry room has old plywood cabinets.  They had been painted several times with acrylic wall paint.

AFTER  These are lovely!  Modello stencil on the largest doors, simple stencil on the edges of the uppers.

Painting or re-staining cabinets can turn your kitchen into the jewel of your home.

FURNITURE

Don't toss out that old furniture,  get creative.  I love painted furniture, some of these I own and enjoy every day.

My favorite design style is industrial and midcentury modern. However, I live in a 1940's bungalow on a quiet street with 8 giant maple trees and wonderful neighbors.  So, in this home the style is eclectic.

Sometime in the 1960's pink plastic tile was in fashion, and whoever lived here loved it.  My solution,  paint!  (again with the right primer anything is possible) First, a textured leaf pattern, painted, then glazed with a bronze metallic wax, finally sealed for durability.  Then adding coordinated painted wooden trim gives it a finished look.
